Keira Knightley urges Human Rights pride

Image
According to an article from GallowayGazette.co.uk, British starlet Keira Knightley has called for the true meaning of "human rights" to be acknowledged on the 60th anniversary of the landmark UN declaration.

Knightley made the comments in support of Amnesty International's Protect the Human campaign.

A picture of the actress holding a banner (see picture above to your left ^)carrying the campaign group's slogan was released to coincide with the anniversary of the adoption of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

She said: "I wanted to be part of this film for Amnesty to help raise awareness of the UDHR and to help them, in a small way, to campaign against the abuses of human rights that are still happening every day."

The actress added: "It seems that 'human rights' has become a bit of a loaded term in this country, but if you look at the declaration that countries made 60 years ago, it just sets out a series of basic rules about h…

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer Break Down 'Frost/Nixon'

Image
ET Onlineposted the following article:

With the best per-screen-average of any film released in 2008, audiences are hungry for the real story of what went on behind the scenes of the 'Frost/Nixon' interviews. Now, Academy Award-winning director and producer team Ron Howard and Brian Grazer reveal their take on this pivotal moment in political and television history.

"It's one of those stories where you think you know something about it, and it turns out as you delve into it [that] it's so much more complicated, so much more entertaining," Howard says. "There's more at stake emotionally than you ever could have imagined." In select theaters now, 'Frost/Nixon' is based on Peter Morgan's dramatic stage play that recreates the compelling 1977 TV interviews between British talk-show host David Frost (Michael Sheen) and former president Richard Nixon (Frank Langella), just a few years after his resignation amid the Watergate scandal. That su…

Frost/Nixon Reviews

Image
A couple of early good reviews for Matthew Macfadyen's latest film, Frost/Nixon, which opens in select theaters in the U.S. tomorrow (December 5th) and everywhere Christmas Day (December 25th)...

From EW.com:

Frost/Nixon:A–

By Lisa Schwarzbaum

Frost/Nixon is a fact-based drama, starring Michael Sheen and Frank
Langella, about a mid-1970s confrontation between a wily British TV host and a
disgraced American president. Doubt is a fictional drama, starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, about a mid-1960s confrontation between an imperious Bronx nun in charge of a parochial school and a liberal priest she is convinced has behaved improperly with a student. The two might seem to have nothing in common, save that both previously enjoyed award-laden Broadway runs, and both are currently receiving Prestige Movie treatment.
